CRISIL, created yet another global benchmark in the world of credit rating by spearheading the formation of the world's first-ever regional credit rating agency - the Caribbean Information and Credit Rating Services Limited (CariCRIS) - spanning 19 countries. These include the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, the OECS, Panama, Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago.

CariCRIS has a diversified shareholding comprising some of the central banks in the region, US and European commercial banks, development banks and financial institutions. Since its inception, CariCRIS has played a vital catalytic role in the development of the regional financial markets, by leveraging on CRISIL's experience. CariCRIS has become a model for many countries in Europe, the Mediterranean and the Middle East regions. They have evinced interest in setting up rating agencies and have approached CRISIL for technical assistance.
